Standard Treatment Almost all gynecologic oncologists recommend whole-pelvis radiation after surgery to decrease the frequency of recurrent disease in the vagina and pelvis. Although it does not statistically improve the five-year survival rate, it is effective in decreasing the incidence of local recurrences in the field of radiation.

Standard Treatment This stage is generally treated like Stage Ic—surgery followed by radiation. Sometimes, however, radiotherapy is given before surgery, with radioactive cesium temporarily placed in the upper vagina two weeks after external radiation treatment is finished.
